English Language is
definitely essential in my everyday life. It is the way to communicate with
people that I meet and interact in the society. I have worked for almost two
and a half years and English Language undeniably allows me to communicate
effectively with others.
English Language
is not the spoken language in my family. I know it has to be spoken often to
excel or converse fluently in the language. Thus, I use it to converse with
people in the other areas of my everyday life.
I understand the
importance of English. It will allow me to understand more about the person
through the different aspects as they speak. Some of the aspects are observing their
gestures, facial expressions and emotions that they display as they speak. I cannot imagine a situation in which I can assist a person but am unable to converse or understand that person. As my work revolves around working with students too, I will be unable to complete my tasks if I could not converse with them.
In short, I feel
strongly that English language is important as it is the common language for
communications. I will speak and converse in the language often as it will
allow me to execute tasks effectively. I cannot deny how important English
is essential even in my daily life routines.

ReplyDeleteHi Kerrie!
ReplyDeleteI bet you had a wonderful time working in SIT. Your working experiences have definitely molded you into better speaker and writer.
I agree that English is important as it is widely spoken in the world. There are approximately 890 million English speakers in the world and this figure displays the extreme importance in conversing in English. With your determination to speak and converse more often, I am sure you will be able to speak more confidently in clear and succinct, sentences.
On a side note, I am sure that your command in Chinese is much better than mine, therefore please bear with me when I seek for translation assistance during our RISE program in China.
Have a great day!
Hello Kerrie,
ReplyDeleteI agree that English is a very important tool in communication with others. You also mentioned that you read other's body languages while you speak to them. I also believe that the understanding of body languages is a very powerful tool that can aid you in tough situations. You can have a translator to translate words, but the body language portrayed by the speaker and the translator will be different.
Every person should have a very general understanding of body languages built in to them. For example a young teenager can tell from his/her mother's face when she is angry. But when you conscientiously take into account other's body languages, you can read the little things and use them to your advantage.
I believe you have the will to succeed well as a great communicator! Keep up the hunger to learn Kerrie!
Sincerely,
Xue Yuan
Hi Kerrie! I have to agree with you that English is essential in our everyday life. English is the universal language and is needed in order to communicate with people.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to you as English Language is also not the spoken language in my family. I do also understand that i need to use English more frequently in order to converse fluently while communicating with others. However, instead of conversing with people with English to improve my command of English, i tend to read more books to improve and expand my vocabulary.
Indeed, while communicating, we would also take note of each other's body language. Body language is a form of non-verbal communication which plays a key role while conversing. Yet, in order to even start this non-verbal communication, you will need to start interacting verbally with people. And to achieve that, like i mentioned earlier, you will need English.
To sum up, I agree that English is just so important in our lives and perhaps we cannot live without it. I enjoyed reading your reflection, Kerrie. I hope that we can converse more in English so as to learn and explore English together! Good Job Kerrie! :)
Thank you, Kerrie, for this clear and fairly detailed initial reflection. I appreciate your making a connection between your work and your need for English. What might have made this illustration even more concrete would be for you to mention one specific example of how your use of English proved to be essential in you doing your job.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad top see that you have gotten good feedback on your reflection. Since my goal with these post is both social and educational, please allow me to comment on a few areas that you might improve:
1) It will allow myself to understand more about the person through the different aspects as they speak. >>>
It will allow ME to understand more about the person through the different aspects as they speak. ('myself' is only used when the object in the sentence is the same as the subject: I bit myself on the tongue.)
2) For example, observing their gestures, facial expressions and the emotions that they displayed while they are speaking. >>>
